If you have a laptop running Linux you probably noticed that the battery is drained very quickly. This is one of those things that are not done right in Linux and are better on OSX and Windows. However there are some tools that may help you improve the battery life, but you must install them. One of these is TLP and is very easy to install it on newer Ubuntu/Kubuntu distribution. All you need to do is:
- Run this command to add the repository: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:linrunner/tlp.
This step is not necessary on newer distribution, TLP is provided via the main repository.
- Run sudo apt-get update to make your computer aware of the new repository. Again, not needed on newer distributions.
- Run sudo apt-get install tlp tlp-rdw to install TLP.
- Finally, run sudo tlp start to start the TLP service. TLP will start automatically on each boot.
