Until now, I used a Nikon D3000 DSLR for my amateur photographic needs. It’s a great entry level device, easy handling, not too bulky, but bulky enough to make me look for a smaller device.
After reading tons of reviews I decided to try out a Sony A5000 mirrorless camera. This camera is fairly cheap, I bought it at the price of an entry level DSLR and has an APS-C sensor. For those who don’t know this is the exact same sensor that is used on some DSLR devices. It is a big sensor and big sensor size means better picture quality.
You may ask why I chose A5000 and not A6000, A5100 or any newer device? Because of the obvious price difference and because Sony introduced the touchscreen on newer models. The problem with the touchscreen is that it consumes a lot of battery life and I like to take a lot of pictures and I’m cheap! I don’t want to buy an extra battery 🙂 . Also this is one of the smallest mirrorless cameras on the market. It’s, in fact, smaller that my current phone (Samsung A3 2016). It has a really nice menu and the auto mode is superb. I don’t really use auto mode that often but it’s nice to have it, when you just want to take an instant picture.
